- While there may be some debate as to whether a “Blue Wave” hit the rest of the country, there is no doubt that it hit CT.
- The results of the election will challenge CRMA members once again. There will be a lot of new legislators to get to know and a brand new administration to work with.
- We are up for the challenge for sure, and know we can count on you. So, buckle up because the session begins in January and we expect they will hit the ground running.
Democrat Ned Lamont Wins Governor’s Race
- Democrat Ned Lamont defeated his Republican opponent Bob Stefanowski by over 40,000 votes to succeed Dan Malloy as CT next Governor.
- Lamont, who invested over $13 million of his own money, identifies himself as a business minded Democrat who will deliver middle class tax relief and promote CT to out of State business and corporations.
- Lamont hit the ground running yesterday by announcing his transition team. You can go here to take a look who is on that team.
- We look forward to working with Lamont Administration for betterment of Connecticut. It’s in all our best interest for CT to grow and to resolve our fiscal problems and create a better business climate in our state.
Senate D’s Win Big
- In what might be the biggest surprise of the night the Democrats not only took control of the State Senate, they did it in an overwhelming fashion.
- D’s held open seats that were up for re-election (12th , 14th Senate Districts ) and took seats held by Republican’s (33rd District) and they defeated R’s in places that had had been Republican strong holds for years (24th, 26th,36th)
- While there is still one recount pending, (as we go to print the 17th district, incumbent Republican George Logan is leading by 65 votes) it looks like the D’s will hold a 23 – 13 advantage. Quite an increase from the 18 – 18 tie that had been the State Senate for the past 2 years.
House D’s Expand Their Majority
- Meanwhile in the House, the Democrats expanded there majority by picking up 12 seats and now hold a 92- 59 majority.
- There are still some pending recounts, including Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, who is leading by only 37 votes.
- Democrats have controlled the House of Representatives in Ct for 30 plus years but for the past several elections Republicans have been crawling back, coming within 10 seats of taking over the House heading into this year’s elections.
- So, it was great anticipation that maybe this year they would close the gap, but that did happen.
- For CRMA we have extensive experience and good relationships with legislators on both sides of the aisle and we will continue that with the expanded D’ majority.
- It may be more channeling for sure, but like the expanded D’s lead in State Senate, together we will keep retailers issues front and center.
