2018 Retail of the Year

  • It has been a little while since we last reached out to you our loyal readers, but we are back with our weekly Friday Facts, which combines updates from the State Capitol and with all news retail.
  • One of the reasons for a slight break, was we have moved the CRMA World HQ once again, this time to New Haven CT.
  • Our new office is located at 129 Church Street, downtown New Haven. It took us a little while to get settled but we are very pleased to be here and welcome all members to come visit us in the Elm City!
  • In addition to our new offices, we also have revamped our website, crmaonline.com. We hope you will visit the site, and gives your feedback.
  • We are excited about both our new headquarters and our website, and you can expect some further news from us as we move into the second half of the year.
  • We will keep you informed thru our FF and are always looking for ways to serve you and we will keep our promise to you that we will remain the voice of retail for all of our members.

With legislature done for the year, it becomes campaign season.

  • Legislature finished for the year – sort of – now its election season.
  • Not really surprising, the Legislature adjourned its regular session on time – May 7th
  • It was a session that was without a lot of drama and controversy but most importantly, NO NEW TAXES.
  • It was also the last regular session for a large number of members of the General Assembly who decided that they have had enough of the Legislature and were either moving up or moving out.
  • There is a lot to unpack but here we go:
  • By our count there are at least 12 members who will retire out right (House members: Reed (Skulczyck, Rovero, Gentile, Berger, Urban, Scopino, Legeyt,. In State Senate: Gomes, Guglielmo, Kennedy, and Slossberg.
  • One who is running for Governor (Srinivasan); One who is running for Lt Gov.(Markely), Two running for AG (Tong and Doyle) and One for State Treasurer (Linares).
  • There are also 2 D’s that are running for the same State Senate seat who are running to replace Doyle in the State Senate (Guerrera v Lesser). Also, House member Staneski is a primary to run for the right to replace Slossberg for the 14th State Senate seat.
  • 3 House GOP members Ziobron, Samson and Tweedie are leaving the lower chamber for shot at a State Senate seats.
  • Got all that?
  • In addition, there will be primaries in both parties for Governor, LT Gov. and Treasurer. Those primaries will be in August so by Labor Day, things will be settled and come November we will have a new Governor for the first time in 8 years.
  • So, there is a lot going on in the world of CT politics and we will do our best to keep you updated along the way thru this crazy campaign season.

  • This year, our luncheon will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Bushnell Theater.
  • Look for information on how you can nominate your favorite retailer – including yourself- to be considered as our Retailer of the Year. It is the highest honor we can bestow upon one of our members and we are once again looking forward to this year’s award luncheon.
