- Here is some good news: The CT Department of Labor released the May job numbers yesterday and we actually added 4,100 new jobs.
- And while the numbers offset the number of the jobs lost in March and April, it is welcome news that there was such a positive number.
- And guess what industry lead part of the uptick? RETAIL.
- Here is the money quote: “There was surprising strength in retail trade and good showing for financial activities, both of which are ahead of last year’s pace”.
- How about that!
- The CT Mirror does a good job with this story of jobs added in May, which, by the way, showed there were 200 positions lost in the public sector.

- For the first time in 21 years CT will add a new commuter rail line.
- Starting June 16th riders can take a train to and from New Haven and Springfield with stops along the route in Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin, Hartford, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
- This is a much anticipated rail line that proponents hope will not only spur economic development along those stops but help employers recruit candidates throughout the State and to relieve traffic.
- There is a great article in today’s Hartford Courant by Ken Gosselin about the benefits to home owners and the real estate market should this new line take hold like it has potential to do.

- As we have told you, with the State conventions now behind us, candidates that did not get the formal endorsement of their respective parties are now preparing for an August primary showdown.
- Because there are some many candidates running this year, not only for statewide offices but for State House and State Senate seats, and because there seem to be so many primaries this August, we are going to take a little different approach to reporting to you on what is happening on the trail.
- We are preparing to run a weekly e-newsletter just focused on the campaigns so that you can follow along with us on all the races from Governor, Attorney General, to your local State Rep race.
- So, look for a special Tuesday, e-newsletter from us as we do our best to keep you up to date thru the August primaries right up to November.
